Choosing the Right SEO Keywords.

If you’re looking to get into SEO services, THE most important part of this is selecting a list of keywords which will maximize chances of your return on investment. SEO takes time and you don’t want to waste months working on either a lost cause (keywords that are way too hard to rank for) or keywords that are bringing you irrelevant traffic.

There are a lot of misconceptions about what constitutes a good keyword, the most common of which is that more traffic means more business.

The fact of the matter is that more relevant traffic means more business. As an example, let’s say you’re a plumber in Sydney. Trying to rank for the keyword “plumber” would be incredibly high competition, making it difficult, costly and time consuming to rank for. But even if you did manage to rank for it, you could well be disappointed with the results given that a large portion of the traffic generated by it could be anything from a student doing research for a project, someone simply looking for the definition of the word, or a huge number of different things. So let’s try turning that around.

The keyword “emergency plumber Sydney” is highly relevant. It would be very unlikely that any of the above examples apply to it, so you could be sure that the traffic it brings you is much more likely to convert into business. What’s more, it would be a lot easier to rank for than just “plumber” and would likely get to the first page much sooner.
Pretty simple really. So make sure you’re investing your time and money wisely rather than just going for the obvious keywords without thinking about what sort of traffic they might generate.
